“We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
So when I read over this quickly I can mix up what the meaning behind it is. I love to “do”. Give a task or maybe twelve and I love the challenge to get them done. Doing good works is a great thing, but when you attach them to your value it is not such a good thing. You are not loved by God because all the great things you do. Not by all the hours you serve the church or how many times you give to the poor. These are great things and we should be doing these things but God’s love is not earned. It is simply placed on us from the day He created us to be His beautiful piece of art. That fact right there lets me sigh away the heaviness of trying to earn His love and acceptance. You wake up loved and go to bed loved. Nothing in between those time frames can separate you from the love of God. The enemy would love you to think otherwise. That mistakes or your short comings, keep you from His love. That is a LIE. Let me prove to you the truth.
Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
We can run ourselves empty trying to live a check list type of life. Attempting to find our “purpose” or value in external things can be exhausting. You are loved, chosen, set apart, and royal, not based on your job title or what your day looks like but based on who you Heavenly Father is. Allow yourself to live from a place of love and value. It is a wonderful habit to build because when we feel love then we can extend love. When we feel valued we can show others they are valued.
The other thing I love about this one verse is, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Far to many days, at least for me, can be full of stress and doubt about the next steps. What job to take, where to live, what relationship to invest in, what to turn from. Our decision are endless, and we sure can put so much weight on making the “correct one”. This verse give me such reassurance. God prepared in advance, before you were born, before you made all the choices, your story. He wrote down your life knowing all the details before you even took a breathe.
Wait, so that means that time I turned away from Him and started pouring my life down the drain He knew that too? He knew the time I would sin and miss the mark again and again? He still loves me knowing I would choose the other path that took me the long hard way? Yes, He knew that was going to happen AND He loves you. You are hand made for your life, mess ups and all. I know that is hard to swallow but it is the beautiful truth.
Let us let go of some weight and some stress, starting right now. Lets declare, Lord I might not have it all figured out but YOU do. I might be a lot further back then I thought but I am right on time for YOU. I do not know the next step but I look to YOU to be the light to my feet. Today I choose joy and love not just for me but for those around me. It is a choice, make it. Love you all!
